This little Pueblo girl carries a woven basket full of corn. Carved from lapis lazuli, her face is made from mother of pearl, red coral detail for her necklace and belt, and the corn in the basket is made from red coral, sleeping beauty turquoise, and orange spiny oyster shell.
Dimensions (in inches): 3” (h) x 1.75” (d) x 1.5” (w)
This double-sided tablet maiden invokes the colors and sandy textures of the New Mexican landscape from its rhyolite stone. On one side, two shy little girls playfully peek out from inside her robe, and on the other side, the maiden delicately carries a tiny kit (a.k.a. a baby fox) in her arms. The piece is inlaid with Sleeping Beauty turquoise and lapis lazuli, and sits on a malachite base.

This brilliantly bright red macaw is made of bamboo coral (also commonly referred to as apple coral) and captures the intelligence and curiosity that macaws are known for. The parrot’s eyes are inlaid with Sleeping Beauty turquoise, and additional inlay detail includes red coral, turquoise and lapis can be found in its back.

About the Artist
Talia Quandelacy (Zuni/Laguna/Choctaw) is an award-winning, third-generation indigenous artist specializing in Zuni carvings. A self-taught artist, she learned sculpture and jewelry from her parents, Faye Quandelacy and Franklin Carrillo. She has sold her artwork at the prestigious SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Indian Fair & Market.
